- Abstract
- Identification of dangerous materials and inforamtion about it are basic suppositions for a successful fire service operation. Today the identification of materials is very difficult. Only with petrol tankers on the streets and railway cars it does work without any problems because of orange signs and UN-No. In all other cases we have a "sign confusion". Information about materials and the thereby resulting operating methods are only available for a small number of transported dangerous materials. The available information system does not come up to the needs of fire service. The fire service needs to fulfil its tasks properly--damage control and damage reduction.
