- The National Bureau of Standards has a role in Flammability and Safety as a major scientific and technology agency, as part of the Department of Commerce, as a service agency to other government agencies, and as an active paticipant in numerous voluntary standards activities. In each of these roles, NBS is heavily involved in, and providing leadership on, flammability and safety.
