- Abstract
- The ignition and flammability properties of a polystyrene backed luminescent emergency escape sign was examined. The sign's ignition point surface flammability, smoke and toxic gas emissions, as well as its ability to propagate flames into adjacent spaces, were examined. Based upon test results, the recommendation is that the sign should not be utilized. A luminescent chlorinated vinyl latex paint was examined as a potential alternative to the sign and was found to possess flame resistant properties which were superior to the sign.
