- Today the relationship of science to society is being reexamined. Government instruments for the support and use of science are being reorganized or created. In such a period data are indispensable for the analysis and study of the various elements that make up the whole structure of science. The Federal Funds series provides such data. This report is the 20th in an annual series that has recorded the data on which the foregoining trends are based. It provides comprehensive statistical information on the size and scope of Federal obligations for scientific activities and the types of institutions and purposes to which such funds are directed.
