- Abstract
- With this report we conclude Phase II of a project entitled "Decision Related Research on Equipment Technology Utilized by Local Government: Fire Suppression." The primary objectives of this project were: (1) to develop a Guide for use by local fire officials in the specification (emphasizing performance) and procurement of fire pumper apparatus; and (2) to pursue areas of research and development offering potential performance improvements. The overall project is divided into threee phases the first of which is completed, the second of which is the subject of this report, and the last of which is planned for the future (See Appendix A for a brief history of the Project.) The following pages report on the methods followed and sunanarize the results of six research tasks offering potential improvements in mobile fire suppression technology completed during Phase II. Also documented are areas requiring further work that were either not resolved during Phase II or identified as a result of the Phase II work. The balance of the report is divided as followes: Section 2: Fire Demand Model Development and Utilization, Section 3: Performance Oriented Vehicle Selection Guidelines, Section 4: Pump Control System Requirements Analysis, Section 5: Pump Control Panel Layout Guidelines; Section 6: Operational Evaluation of Lightweight Hose, Section 7: Analysis of the Remote Delivery of Fog Spray, Section 8: Developmental Requirements.
