Abstract
The requirement for a wet sprinkler system in missile and rocket magazines on AE, AOE, AOR, and AO (Jumbo) class ships is questioned as a result of this study. Safety features incorporated in today's weapons and the containized unit load concept combine to produce a very low probability of a rocket motor ignition. This low probability of ignition and the doubtful effectiveness of the wet sprinkler system under conditions occurring in these magazinesindicate the requirement for a wet sprinkler system is not justified.
