Abstract
The three principal hazards experienced in the chemical industry are due to fires, explosions and toxicity. Additionally there are the ever present, but usually more readily controlled, mechanical, electrical and cryogenic hazards. As the same three major hazards are associated with virtually all combustion problems we have set out to review the methods used in the chemical industry for hazard identification and asessment to see if there are possibilities for their wider use.
