- Sprinklers, the most reliable and efficient fire fighter, have been confined primarily to protecting industrial and mercantile properties. The only significant change in sprinkler design during the last fifty years was Factory Mutual Research Corporation's (FMRC) introduction of the "Standard" sprinkler in the early 1950's.
