- Immense resources have been devoted to the design of nuclear weapons, but relatively few to studies of the drastic impact on our environment of using these in war. A very important contribution to these studies was commissioned by the editors of "Ambio", the environmental journal of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, and published in November 1982. It sparked off an ominous line of enquiry which showed that our whole environment is at risk.
