- Abstract
- Sandwich panels composing wall, floor and roof components for an Operation BREAKTHROUGH housing system were tested. The components, fabricated by bonding composite facings of fiberglass woven cloth impregnated with polyester resin (FRP) laminates and gypsum board sheets to a kraft paper honeycomb core, were subjected to short-term and long-term loading to obtain ultimate and serviceability loading data. Wall specimens were loaded axially under laboratory conditions until failure occurred; some of these specimens were conditioned in moist atmosphere to simulate extreme environmental conditions. Floor and roof specimens were subjected to transverse loading to determine flexural behavior by imposing short-term loads until failure occurred. (Author)
