- Abstract
- The Coast Guard has been using the Ship Fire Safety Engineering Method (SFSEM) in conjunction with the SAFE 2.1 computer code to examine the fire protection capabilities of a number of different classes of cutters. Recently the Coast Guard began to use the code to evaluate new designs. In the course of the development of SAFE, questions have arisen as to how the deductions drawn by the program (the output) are affected by the assumptions made by the person performing the survey (the person providing the imput). This thesis identified the influence of selected, critical variables in SAFE on the output. The analysis also studied selected parts of the basic algorithms and suggested improvements to the program.
