Abstract
Effects of thermal stability and initial molecular weight (melt viscosity) of PMMA and PS on their various flammability characteristics were studied by analyzing differences in the flammability and material characteristics using two different PMMA samples and two different PS samples. The differences in thermal stability were measured by thermal analysis. Various characteristics of piloted ignition, flame spread, gasification, and burning were measured for each sample. The comparison between the material characteristics and the flammability characteristics for these samples reveals the importance of the material characteristics on polymer flammability.
