- Abstract
- The structure and structural environment as a fire preventive have been given at various times a wide range in value. Nearly all structures have combustible contents and the loss on them is at present nearly equal to that on the structures themselves, considering all types. Considering the fire resistive type alone by which is meant the type able to withstand a complete burnout of contents without structural collapse in any part, we find such buildings open to attack not only from within but also from some of the more severe exposures from the outside. Just what fires may be communicated to fire resistive buildings and how conditions would change with change in the predominating type of construction in a given city or district constitutes the main theme of this paper.
