- Abstract
- The results of a companion study of unionized workers were reported last year in a report titled Unionized Construction Workers and Their Work Environment. The report was written as a technical report of the research for the study's sponsors. It was not written with the intent of distributing it to the construction industry. The technical details of the research and of the statistical analyses are of little interest to contractors, owners, unions, and workers in the industry. We received comments that these details turned off many readers. Therefore, we made the decision to report the results of this study of open shop workers in a different manner. This report will present the results of our study without the technical details. It will focus on the practical implications of the findings and providing recommendations that will improve worker motivation, performance, and satisfaction. The technical details of the research and statistical analyses will be presented in a series of technical research papers and reports.
