Abstract
Carpet and rug manufacturing will continue to be one of the nation's outstanding growth industries in the next decade. Factory shipments are expected to increase at an average rage of nearly 11% per annum, reaching approximately $3.7 billion in 1975 and more than %6 billion in 1980. Unlike the past, however, volume will rise at a slightly faster pace in dollars than in square yards. After registering a relatively small net increase in the 1950's, carpet and rug shipments accelerated from bout $800 million in 1960 to more than $2.2 billion in 1969. Although this was followed by a slight decline in 1970, shipments advaned to a record $2.4 billion last year.
