Abstract
The study of refractory materials can be done in a variety of ways. Furnaces, exploding wires, shock tubes, electric discharges through the materials, and so on, have been used to produce high temperature species for observation. The various tools used to elucidate reactions and thermodynamic properties include mass spectrometers, effusion cells, and spectrographs.
