Abstract
The objective of this investigation is to evaluate the behavior of furniture frames during fire. Tests were performed measuring the stengths and deflections of wooden (southern pine) bends and joints exposed to elevated temperatures. The times to failure were also determined. A model ws developed describing the strengths of wooden bends. Building on this model, a computer code was written which can be used to calculate the strengths of bends at room temperature. The code will serve as a basis for calculating the changes in strengths at elevated temperatures and for predicting the failure time.
