Abstract
The chemical modification of viscose rayon to yield a flame-and glow-resistant product is discussed. Data are presented on the mesylation, phosphorylation, flame resistance, and glow resistance of modified viscose rayon. Quantitative data are shown on the phosphorus introduced by previously described methods in the case of cotton and rayon fabrics. the most recent results on the flame and glow resistance of modified cotton and viscose rayon fabrics by the preferred method are shown. Chemical stability and abrasion resistance of the modified cottons are briefly discussed. Work on the use of other sulfonylating agents for cellulose is also presented.
