- Abstract
- Work during this period has been devoted to experimental studies of diffusion-flame extinction. Extinction measurements were completed sucessfully for polyethylene and for polystyrene. Efforts to extract overall rate constants for these fuels from extinction data encountered difficulties in that radiant energy loss from the surface of the burning polymer proved to be important. Research was initiated on methods of properly accounting for this radiant energy loss in data reduction.
