Abstract
There is currently no clear criterion to determine the best extinguisher agent for each fire protection need. The intention of this study is to obtain real data and methods of application to allow the determination of the appropriate agent for each need. The process following was the following: 1) collection of extinguisher agents from Spanish suppliers of these materials; 2) tests of physical properties; 3) efectivity tests with various types of fire; 4) placing the results on the corresponding tables; 5) application of a multi-criteria method (Weighted Total Method) to evaluate different samples of the same agent; and 6) application of a multi-criteria method (Electre Method) to evaluate the different agents studied. With the evaluation criteria used, it has been established that among the agents studied, there is a general preference for multiuse extinguisher powder. It should be noted that water was not included among the agents, and that extinguisher agents and not protective measures were studied. In particular, a slight by generalised preference was found for multiuse powder over conventional powder, and a preference for Halon 1211 over 1301. Similary, a preference was expressed for multiuse powder over foams and halons, but without establishing any preference between the latter two agents.
