Abstract
The properties affecting the radiative output of a 0.5 m diameter liquid ethanol pool fire are measured. A multi-channel thermocouple probe is used to simultaneously measure the temperature fluctuations of the flame. The flame behavior is dominated by a 2 Hz oscillation everywhere in the flame. The compensated peak temperature is 1300 K and the maximum standard deviation is 330 K. Measurements of CO2, CO, unburned hydrocarbons, soot volume fraction and narrow-angle radiation show that the peak radiance from the flame occurs around the centerline for heights below 100 mm.
