- Abstract
- If transport in general, and rail transport in particular is a means to an end, specificaly the movement of objects and persons in space and time, and in conditions which are as close as possible to those desired by the usedr, it is evident that therms such as SAFETY, SEPEED and comfort are Quality factors in rail systems. Railroad rolling stock at present in service is built according to the state of the technology at the mement when it comes on the scene. Its construction and fitting out has, in the realm of fire fighting, complied with the current legal provisions and, at the same time, use has been made of the most suitalbe materials available at the time when it comes into service. At the present time, increased social pressure aimed at demanding a higher level of safety in all its aspects has meant that not only railway authorities but also the rolling stock builders have taken action in the matter.
