- Abstract
- A study was conducted to improve the design of carbon dioxide dispensing systems used to extinguish fires in facilities housing electronic computers. Information was collected from visits to computer facilities, a literature survey, and interviews with representatives from industry. Tests were conducted in simulated computer cabinets to confirm various fire protection hypotheses, to evaluate nozzle types for fixed-pipe dispensing systems, and to determine the influence of various parameters on the stratification, concentraion, and persistence of CO2 in computer cabinets. It was concluded that a Schutte and Koerting stream-jet blower will provide the most effective means of dispensing CO2.
