- Abstract
- This standard establishes performance requirements and test methods for evaluating portable organic vapor detectors, instruments that may be used by arson investigators to locate fire debris that may contain residues of a liquid accelerant. Reliable identification of a specific class of accelerants is possible only in a laboratory using more sophisticated equipment, and is not included in the performance criteria. This standard includes methods by which a detector's sensitivity to se lected organic vapors may be determined. It also included methods by which the instrument's responses to fire debris vapor with the without residues of a liquid accelerant can be compared.
