- Abstract
- We have tested the non-flammability of oven dried leaves of a selection of species, and have sought to relate the nonflammability to leaf composition. It is not closely related to the concentration of any one element in the leavesbut is related to the sum of the concentrations of all the mineral elements, especially to the sum of potassium, sodium, calckum, magnesium, phosphorus and silicon. The effect of volatile, essential oils on leaf flammability is discussed in an Appendix.
