Abstract
A theoretical and experimental study of the structure and radiaiton properties of nonluminous and luminous buoyant turbulent diffusion flames is described. The results have application to modeling fires within structures, materials test methods, fire detection systems, and effects of materials on fire properties. The investigation has two phases: study of effects of turbulence/radiation interactions, considering nonluminous flames; and study of extension of the laminar flamelet concept of diffusion flames to the soot properties needed to estimate radiation from luminous diffusion flames.
