Abstract
Burn injuries constitute an extremely serious health problem in the United States. Such injuries associated with the ignition of clothing and other fabrics are, in most cases, more severe, more costly, and more often fatal than those not involving fabric ignition. The cost is great - the Department of Health, Education, and Welfare, has estimated that there are annually 3,000 to 5,000 deaths and 150,000 to 250,000 injuries from burns associated with flammable fabrics and that the directly related financial loss exceeds a quarter of a billion dollars.
