Abstract
The plume theory of Emmons and Ying is presented and the behavior of continuous solutions examined within a Rossby number, buoyancy flux and flow rate solution space. It is shown that the role of the Rossby number, introduced by considering the pressure force caused by the vortical motion, is critical to the behavior of the solutions.
