- Abstract
- This FY 85-89 Research and Technology Plan (5-Year Plan) details the Engineering and Services Laboratory (ESL) Research and Development Programs in Civil Engineering and Environmental Quality. The ESL programs are directed toward expanding the technology base needed for developing state-of-the-art capabilities to support the wartime Engineering and Services role in projection of aerospace power. These efforts encompass activities in the areas of airbase survivability, pavements, and fire technology. In addition, environmental research is pursued to assure that compliance with national environmental regulations will not impede Air Force operations. This plan reflects our budget as contained in the FY 85 President's Budget and projects research and development activities for the next 5 years. Major technical objectives and approaches are explained in Sections IV through VIII. These projections are based on needs as identified in Air Force requirements and guidance documents, as well as on technology deficiencies projected by the scientific community. For this reason, they are under constant review and revision to assure optimization R&D resources. Technology roadmaps are provided in Appendix A for each technical area. Each roadmap displays the planned research projects and their integration to meet the technology objectives. Appendix B provides the projected funding associated with each technology project.
