- Abstract
- In the flame sheet approximation of diffusional burning, reaction proceeds infinitely fast while the flame temperature is also at the maximum possible value, corresponding to the stoichiometric adiabatic flame temperature. Realistically, however, reaction proceeds at a finite rate such that the reaction is incomplete as the reactants traverse the flame. This leads to a small amount of reactant leakage through the flame and consequently a reduction of the flame temperature. With excessive leakage, the flame cannot sustain itself and extinction occurs.
