- Abstract
- This paper address the background, theory, methodology, potential and limitations of numerical grading systems. A number of dirrerent systems are briefly discused. Particular attention is given to the methodology involved in the development of the Fire Safety Evaluation System (FSES's) and the approaches used to enhance professional judgement in this process. The future potential of replacing major elements of professional judgement with engineering calculations is discussed.
