- Abstract
- Data on factors that can determine the visibility and effectiveness of exit signs are reported from four studies. The visibility of different types of internally and externally lit exit signs was assessed for both clear and smoky conditions. The role of luminance, contrast, color, size and position of the directional indicator in determining exit sign effectiveness is discussed and suggestions for further research are given.
