- Abstract
- Since fire-retardant-treated wood is gaining more acceptance year by year, it is desirable that its strength properites be known, particularly for structural applications. this paper summarizes the results of several studies conducted at the Forest products Laboratory and elsewhere on the bending properties of air-dried and kiln-dried fire-retardant-treated wood. Collectively the studies indicate that modulus of rupture and work to maximum load in bending were reduced by varying amounts depending on species and type of fire retardant. In general, the reductions are consistend with the 10 percent reduction in design stresses recommended for fire-retardant-treated lumber.
