- In a research project funded by the Swedish fire Research Board, BRANDFORSK and SP two simply supported concrete beams with haunched I-sections have been evaluated when exposed to fire in full scale furnace tests. The special interest of the type of beams is based on the slim section. due to high temperatures in the web it was likely that the shear capacity would determine the load bearing capacity. The shear behavior of a beam is rather complicated and today there exists no widely accepted model that describes this type of failure. The research in shear in combination with fire is very limited, which was concluded in a literature review by Grauers. The purpose of this project was to identify constructions where shear failure was likely to occur. Full scale test should form a bases for evaluation of different shear models under fire conditions.
