Abstract
Several modifications to the Brigham Young University Code PCGC-2 are described. These modifications stabilize the solution technique for high velocity flow in a rapidly expanding or contracting region. In such regions, the pressure changes significantly so that adjustments to the algorithm, particularly in the initial estimate of the solution, were introduced so as to obtain converged solutions. Using this modified procedure, two flow patterns are presented for the Morgantown Energy Technology Center Bench-Scale Pressurized Combustor which correspond to very different operating conditions. In addition, modifications of the equilibrium chemistry subroutines of the code are described. These allow for the calculations of condensed species (pure or ideal solutions) in a manner consistent with the Gibbs phase rule.
