- Abstract
- Fire is generally an act of human failing and is, therefore, capable of rectification. The damage caused by fire can be estimated by studying fire statistics. There are three main objectives of fire safety; safety of life of occupants in and around buildings, safe-guarding of property in the building on fire and in nearby buildings and finally prevention of conflagration which can devastate large areas. No quantifiable methods of fire haard assessment have been developed. Making of rules ensuring control over new buildings and old cause problems when different authorities have responsibilities for each of these. High buildings, usually above 25 m., present special problems for rescue, fire-fighting etc. For the preparation of fire safety code, twelve guidelines have been given.
