- Abstract
- There are many cases of arson in Sweden each year. Various efforts are made to deal with this problem, both at the national and local levels. Preventive measures have been taken by the municipal emergency and rescue services, the National Rescue Services Agency (SRV), the National Fire Protection Assiciation (SBF), the police and insurance companies for example. BRANDFORSK has commissioned FOA to throw some light on steps taken by various parties to prevent arson. This study includes a summary of Swedish sources of information on arson published after 1990 (chapter 4) and a study of local fire prevention work that focuses on arson. In the latter study we have carried out interviews and serveys of the emergency services, housing companies, insurance firms and the police in order to try and build up a picture of ongoing arson-prevention work and that which has been conducted over the past five years in the municipalities (chapters 6-7). In addition, concrete examples are given of various fire prevention measures that have been taken in one/some of the the municipalities studied (chapter 8 ). In the final chapter (chapter 9) a summary analysis is made of the material gathered by the study.
