Abstract
Design for Construction Safety ToolBox is a versatile, easy-to-use tool to help plan and design projects for construction worker safety. ToolBox provides a means for designers or others to address construction worker safety in their designs. Designers, by considering construction worker safety in their designs, can help eliminate or control common safety hazards, reduce the number of injuries and associated costs, and provide a beneficial impact to other aspects of a project. ToolBox includes a database of design suggestions or "best practices" that can be implemented during the project planning and design phases. The program is best used at the beginning or during the early stages of design so that the safety ideas can be easily implemented without additional effort or expense. The design suggestions not only focus on cosntruction phase safety, but also can be applied to the start-up, maintenance, and decommissioning phases of a project.
