- Abstract
- Thermal conductivity of fumed-silica insulation board was measured using the National Institute of Standards and Technology 1-meter Guarded Hot Plate. Measurements were conducted for the following range of parameters: bulk density, 304.5 to 325.4 kg m(3); mean temperature 283.1 to 311.0 K: and barometric pressure 97.5 to 103.43 kPa. The effect of moisture content on room-temperature measurements was minimized by prior conditioning of the specimen at 100 deg C for 24 hours. Seventy-five samples (600 by 600 by 25.4 mm) were transferred to the Office of Standard Reference Materials in Gaithersburg, Maryland, USA. The material is offered as a Standard Reference Material having a low thermal conductivity at room temperature.
