- Abstract
- Over the past 20 years, considerable progress has been made in developing international standard test methods for measuring the fire resistance performance of building structures and components. A review is presented of the activities in ISO TC 92 Subcommittee 2 (Fire Resistance) which is the predominant international committee dealing with fire resistance test standardization. These activities deal with structural components, doors and windows, ventilation ducts and dampers, roof coverings, sealed penetrations and calculation methods. The role of other international and regional organizations is described and some comparisons are made with standardization activities in ASTM E 5. Examples are given of the different approaches taken toward standardization in ISO, ASTM and several national standards organizations. The impacts of ISO fire test standards on U.S. standards and U.S. product marketing are discussed.
