- Abstract
- Eighty-five children hospitalized during a 5 year period due to second and third degree burns were treated at the Surgical Research Unit. This number included children from one month to 14 years of age. A probit analysis showed the LD50 was a 55 per cent body surface burn. The following procedures were carried out with excellent results: [1] estimation of replacement therapy for the first 24 hours according to the Brooke Formula and was administered with reference to the clinical response of the patient; [2] exposure method for treating the burn was the method of choice in most instandes; [3] exposure method for caring for donor sites proved most advantageous; and [4] cadaver bomografts have been used as a life-saving measure for extensively burned patients.
