- Abstract
- Architects must consider building fire codes of the country at the initial drawing of the building's or structure's design. Matters to be considered include minimum distances between buildings, appropriate placement of fire walls, proper division of building into independent compartments and sections, minimum fire resistance time of structures (walls, doors, etc.), proper widths of escape routes and corridors, alternative corridor, exits, strategic location of vents and windows for smoke control. Special provisions include requirements for emergency and panic lighting, and for fire fighting equipments, such as installation of water filled hoses.
