- Abstract
- Hot smoky gases generated by a fire within a store will cool substantially before passing out of the store if its retail floor area is greater than 1000m(2). This could present a hazard to life if the store opens onto an enclosed shopping mall since the mall's smoke-control system may not be able to maintain adequate visibility for escape at low level in the mall. This article summarises three methods which are designed primarily to prevent cool smoky gases from flowing in bulk from such large stores onto enclosed shoping malls.
