- The "Fire Fatalities Study" funded by the National Bureau of Standards Programmatic Center for Fire Research since July 1, 1974 includes six topics that form the basis for a larger view of the causes and consequences of fire casualties in the State of Maryland. Included are: 1: detailed case studies, 2: cyanide studies, 3: lung gas studies, 4. metal oxide studies, 5. soot analyses, 6. interaction between heart disease and carbon monoxide The Medical Examiner's Office, State of Maryland, contributes to items (1), (2) and (6). The Johns Hopkins university School of Hygiene and Public Health contributed some samples for (5).
