Abstract
Planning for future resource utilisation requires a knowledge of the performance of materials available, whether or not they are currently in general use. Similarly, specificers and their clients need to have confidence in the long-term durability of previously untried materials. A study carried out with these objectives in mind showed that plain concrete containing crushed Jurassic limestone aggregate can be strong and frost-resistant but gains little from air entrainment. Extra cover for embedded metal may be needed to prevent an increase in the risk of corrosion.
