- Abstract
- Understanding flame and combustion processes in detail has become particularly important recently because of the need for fuel economy, minimizing pollutant formation, and control of fires. Turbulent mixing of fuel and oxidant is the dominant rate controlling step in many types of combustion systems. At the National Bureau of Standards, a new technique has been demonstrated which utilizes Fourier analysis of Raman signals to study concentration fluctuations in turbulent gas flows in a continuous nonintrusive way.
