- The popularity of Report No. 1, "A Guide to Sound Fire Insurance Underwriting," exceeded our most optimistic expectations. In answer to many requests, work has started on Report No. 2, which will be similar in nature. Report No. 1 also provoked considerable discussion and a number of questions. One of those which has been raised is this: "Granted, maps give a full underwriting picture, as illustrated in Report No. 1. However, rate manuals give much of that information, cost nothing more, and are even more quickly read. For most risks, therefore, isn't underwriting by rate book more practical?"
