Abstract
Although the degradation of synthetic polymers under fire conditions is important to fuel production and combustion, it has received little attention, mostly because of experimental limitations. We have developed a novel driven-rod, radiant pyrolysis apparatus to study steady-state linear regression of vertically mounted polymer rods degrading under nonflaming conditions that simulate those of combustion.
