Abstract
In 1976, the first major fire test facilities to be established in New Zealand were commissioned by the Building Research Association of New Zealand at its new Research Station, Moonshine Road, Judgeford, 30 km from Wellington. The paper discusses the nature of the tests conducted on building materials and elements of structure, and the equipment used is described. There are at present limitations on the types of tests that can be conducted and the paper includes reports on investigations already carried out into methods of developing the equipment to extend the range of tests conducted.
