- Abstract
- The purpose of the hose shutoff clamp is to temporarily shut off (squeeze off) the flow of water in fire hoses. These fire hoses are in nominal sizes of 1- and 1 1/2-inch, and are single-jacket rubber-lined as per Forest Service Specifications No. 182 and 5100-00186. The hoses are used by the USDA Forest Service primarily in fighting forest and brush fires. The clamp must be lightweight and compact enough to be carried without difficulty in a fireman's hip pocket or coveniently carried on a belt loop. It must be simple in construction for easy manual operation. The clamp must be able to shut off water in ahose at 300 psi.
